Strength Of A Spiral: GYROTONIC® and Personal Training by Mike Luque |
|
I began
working with people's bodies as a massage therapist in 1998 and began training as a client in GYROTONIC® that fall. I was so
amazed by the feeling the work gave me body that in the spring of 1999, I decided to become an instructor and began my teacher training here in San Francisco under Master Trainer Debra Rose. I got certified by system creator Juliu Horvath in November of that year.
As small group of
trainers continued our training with Debra and began an unusual and all inclusive training on all the GYROTONIC® Specialized equipment, a once ever opportunity. After over a year of training and practice, Juliu once again came to San Francisco and I was certified on all other aspects of the GYROTONIC® system and equipment. |
|
In February of 2000, I went to New York and took the GYROKINESIS™ Foundation training
with Juliu. Learning directly with the originator was a great experience and greatly increased my understanding of all elements of GYROTONIC® concepts and movement.
Once certified, your own training doesn't end. The system continues to evolve and bi-annual updates are required for all certified teachers. In the following years, I re-took the Gyrotoner course, completed his GYROTONIC® update with Master Trainer Keli Fine, attended a GYROTONIC® Level II course lead by Juliu
Horvath in Miami Beach (which was an amazing week with 30 trainers from around the country), completed a new certification on the Archway™ with Master Trainer Billy Macagnone and was re certified in GYROKINESIS® with Debra Rose. |
Mike is a fabulous trainer -- he turned me on to GYROTONIC about 2 years ago and I love it! The work-outs vary and he listens to your goals and keeps you focused. 5 stars!

In 2004, I decided
to increase my skills for working with my clients by becoming a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Once diving into the training field, I found the NASM's OPT system so well thought out and gave such positive results, I increased my knowledge by taking all the advanced certifications the NASM had to offer.
While working at a private gym in 2007, I first saw and worked with Kettlebells. After taking several sessions with a Kettlebell trainer, I decided to add this great tool to my arsenal and became a certified Kettlebell instructor through Kettlebell Concepts.
Much like my GYROTONIC® training, my own personal training education never ends. Who knows what lays ahead?
